In one of the most exquisite of art forms, the portrayal of the human body captures the beauty, strength, spirit and grace of our selves and confirms in our imagination what is possible. The symbolism of the human body is as old as man on the earth for through our own image we are able to experience our potential greatness and efficacy.
Pastel is particularly suited to the human figure because of its luminosity in portraying skin tones.
Figure studies are exciting and present a challenge to an artist?s intellect as to what is essential about the pose and expression of the model and how the artist responds to it. Figure drawing is a combination of adulation and analysis of the human form in the artists mind and both must be balanced in such a way as to blend these seen and unseen forces into a unique and unrepeatable view of Body and Soul.
In any human activity, whether it be sports, music, dance, art, we celebrate the human form and what it represents.
